In a tiny ranch town in southeastern Utah, builders have started building a $150 million house with 1,400 square feet of living space for $15 a month.
The project has attracted a lot of attention.
It’s the first in a series of $15-a-month houses built by builders in Utah.
A couple of years ago, Utah had one of the lowest house values in the country and people were desperate to get into the market.
They wanted the option to buy for less.
That’s when local builder Jim Langer bought a building site and built his dream house for $150,000.
Now, Langer is hoping to build another house for the $20,000 price tag that would house a couple.
“We have to be careful not to get caught up in the frenzy,” Langer said.
The building site was about 10 miles south of Salt Lake City.
But Langer had a plan.
His wife, Susan, had recently taken her son to a movie and he was in town.
The Langers said they wanted a place where they could get a bit of work done while he was home.
So they bought a 1,600-square-foot house that has a kitchen and two bathrooms.
The new house is called the Langer House and it has all the amenities that Langer has dreamed of.
It includes a full kitchen, a living room with a big TV and a bedroom with a bed.
“It’s got a lot more than a kitchen,” said Langer, who has built houses before.
“You’ve got a bathroom and a living area.”
The house is set back from the road, so it’s easy to walk and the house is about a mile away from downtown Rockford.
“I want it to be something special,” Ller said.
It also has about 60 parking spaces.
“If you’re lucky enough to live in a place like this, you’ll never need to drive through,” he said.
He also has plans to have an outdoor swimming pool, a barbecue and even a bike shed.
“We want to put a little bit of everything into this house,” he added.
“And this is a great place to live.”
Langer says his project has brought in about $200,000 in funding.
The house sits on an acre of land and it’s owned by the Langers.
There are plans to add a second floor of bedrooms and bathrooms.
Langer plans to raise $1 million to start the project.
Langers has been building houses in Rockfords’ rural areas for about 20 years and says the new house will be a welcome addition to the community.
“Rockford is not known as a community that is particularly supportive of small business, so we’re very fortunate that the town has chosen to put this house here,” Langers executive director of sales, marketing and development said.
“This will help to give us an edge in our market.”
