By John R. LottPublished Dec. 20, 2016 10:35:36A Texas man who police said threw a beer bottle into a Texas State Legislature building was killed Tuesday after police said he threw a “beer can” at a police officer, and that officers fired warning shots, according to state police.
An autopsy found that 25-year-old Dontrell Jones died of injuries that included a concussion, a fractured skull and a collapsed lung.
He had a blood alcohol content of 0.07 percent, state police said.
The incident came amid heightened tensions in Texas over the use of deadly force by law enforcement and the controversial Confederate flag flying over the Capitol, which was raised last week to honor the victims of a massacre in Charlottesville, Virginia, in August.
Jones’ death was the second time in a month that police shot dead a man who tried to throw a beer-bottle at them.
On Friday, a 27-year old man threw a bottle at an officer in Austin, Texas.
