A project that would transform the area into a “urban playground” is getting its start in the state’s northwest, as urban planners are seeking ways to improve access to the area’s industrial parks and parks surrounding the city.
The Wisconsin City and Regional Planning Association (WCCRP), a state agency that oversees development and redevelopment in the region, has approved a plan to make a park on the site of a former pulp mill a playground, and to turn the adjacent industrial park into a new urban playground.
The proposal, approved by WCCRP on Friday, also includes a plan for a park adjacent to the former site of the Wisconsin State Capitol that was once home to the United States Capitol, which was constructed in the 1920s.
A project that will transform the site into a ‘park’In 2016, the former Madison County jail was transformed into a park by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR).
The site had been a jail for about a century and housed an inmate population of about 5,000.
The jail’s former occupants were unable to afford to pay to demolish the property, so it was decided to convert the property into a green space, as it was later renamed the “Wisconsin City and Central Park.”
It was in this green space that a local group of students, students of Wausau State University, and others built the Green School, a school with a “zero tolerance” policy for violence, and an annual “playground” event for kids of all ages.
The plan calls for a playground that will feature three different types of play areas: a small-to-medium sized park, a large-to large sized park and a playground area with benches and a basketball court.
The project will create an outdoor area that can accommodate about 1,000 children, said Chris Schlosser, a project coordinator for the WCCGP.
The playground is expected to be open to the public in 2021.
The park will be located next to the proposed Green School at the former Wisconsin State Prison site, where the Wisconsin Governor’s office is now located.
Schlosser said that the park will feature a variety of activities that will make the area “the kind of place where you can play outside,” including basketball courts, a playground and a baseball field.
Schwartz, who is part of the group that has designed the playground, said the project is part-funded by a grant from the National Parks Conservation Association.
Scholars and volunteers from WCCP and the University of Wisconsin-Madison are helping to design and implement the project.
Schlasker said the park is being constructed in conjunction with the University’s School of Architecture.
The WCCHP said it hopes to have a playground in place by the end of 2020, and the park to be ready for its opening in 2021, according to a statement from the group.
The group is hoping to partner with the UW-Madison and the Madison County Sheriff’s Office to provide playgrounds for the park, according a statement.WCCHP’s website also offers more information on the project and encourages participants to visit the site to learn more about the project’s plans and get involved.
Schwitz said the team hopes to make the project a reality by the time the new school opens in 2021 and the playground is operational.
