Construction is going on at the new Landmark Urban Construction, a two-storey apartment building located in the historic city of Urbana-Champaign, Illinois, and slated to be completed this year.
Construction on the three-storeys tower will be the first of what is expected to be a series of apartment buildings constructed in the area over the next few years.
The project was designed by Cintra Architecture, with Cintras partners on board including GK Architecture.
The building is the third of its kind in Illinois, following the construction of the Cintris Tower in the Chicago suburb of Mount Prospect and the GK Architects-designed new apartment building at the former Lincroft Field in Indianapolis, Indiana.
“We’ve been fortunate to have the expertise and vision of Cintral and the architects of GK, who have helped us bring this project to life,” said Cintora, who was also responsible for the design of the recently completed apartment building in the Washington DC suburb of Chevy Chase.
The design of Landmark was the result of a two year collaboration between the Urbanas office of CINR Architects and Urbans Urban Development Corporation, which was founded in 2008 by the family of former President Barack Obama.
Urbaniacs was among the first companies to bid on the project, which would be the second major building in Urbania, after the new Cintr Architects-led apartment building, located at the site of the former Wackenhut Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Urbana was one of the first cities in the US to announce plans to build a large apartment building.
The building is located just two blocks from the site where the Cinra Architects office is located.
The proposed project would be called Landmark, and it would consist of three buildings with a total of six floors each.
The upper floors would be leased to tenants, while the lower two floors would remain vacant.
Urabana Mayor Ron Loeser said the apartments in the Landmark apartment building will be designed to be affordable and offer high-quality finishes and materials.
The new buildings are expected to include an open floor plan, and there will be two separate levels of living spaces for each floor, he said.
“These buildings will provide a new level of affordability and luxury for our city, a new dimension of luxury for residents, and a unique experience for visitors, visitors of Urborans past, and anyone who visits Urbaneast,” Loesers said.
The project is expected make its debut next spring, when the Urbrana City Council will approve the use of a special permit to construct the new apartment buildings.
